Suspect: SURNAME, FIRSTNAME MIDDLENAME
WARNING: This suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
[/size]WARNING: This suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
If your character is not particularly armed nor dangerous, feel free to replace it with something else.
Basic Stats:
Name: Given name goes here. This website lists popular baby names of the 1900s which, assuming your character is in his/her 20s, might be helpful.
Known Aliases: Not everyone goes by their given name. If your character has a nickname or a false identity by which they tend to call themselves, this is the place to mention it. Alternatively, if your character comes from an Asian or Native American culture and goes by a name which is not their own (i.e. prefers an American name to an Asian one or rejects the legal Christian name that was forced upon them in boarding school) here is where you mention it.
Gender: Male or Female?
Age: The date, month and year that your character was born (keep in mind this RP is set in 1927), followed by their age. Your may also put your character’s star sign if you wish.
Ethnicity: Asian/Caucasian/Afro-Caribbean/African-American/Italian/Irish/French/Cajun/Something Else?
Nationality: Sometimes a character may be a citizen of a country other than their place of birth. Please state their nationality here, for example American, English, Irish, Australian, other.
Physical Description:
Mug shot: The characters Playby.
Height: Post character’s height here.
Build: Muscular / slender / chubby / thin / other?
Hair Colour: Fairly self-explanatory. Just keep in mind that most people in the 1920s wouldn't be wearing, say, a mohawk, or bright blue hair flowing down to their knees. You get the idea. Popular hairstyles at the time included bobs for young women and hair slicked back for men.
Eye Colour: Post their eye colour here. Characters are human so please be realistic with eye colours, also, please remember that eyes change colour according to lighting and the clothes you wear, not mood. Coloured contacts have not been invented.
Known Disguises: Clothing style. How do they dress in everyday life? Tell us about their favourite colour to wear, what would they never think of wearing, a person’s clothes say a lot about them! Sometimes it isn't about what you wear so much as how you wear it. Say your character is wearing a suit. Is the suit jacket on or off? Are their sleeves rolled up? Is it a new suit, or old? Are they wearing a tie, and if so, is it loose? Is their collar buttoned or unbuttoned? You can say a lot about a character through their attitude towards clothes.
Please only choose clothing appropriate to the era. For example sweatpants or trackpants were not around. However, we are not being 100% overstrict with this, so if you pick something more appropriate to the 1930's, we won't bite.
Distinguishing Marks: What will people notice when they look at your character? What is there about your character that stands out? What sets them apart from the crowd? Their height, the way they dress, unusual hair style, their build? Do they have a scar with an interesting story behind it? How about tattoos or a certain accessory their never seen without?
Psychological Report:
Self Image: How does your character think about him/herself? Do they like who they are? Do they wish they could be different somehow? This is an important glimpse into your character’s mind.
To the Outward Eye: How other people perceive your character? Remember you can’t actually decide how other peoples characters will react to yours. This is more about the first impressions your character might give, will they come off as moody or standoffish when meeting someone for the first time? Or would they project a confident air to the world.
Social Status: Popular/outcast? Are they the type to have a lot of friends, or maybe just one of two close friends? Would they be friendly to everyone they meet or are they picky about who they chose to associate with?
Religion: Pick one. Characters from Hispanic, Italian, and some Irish backgrounds are most likely Catholic, while most other Americans and European immigrants are probably some variety of Protestant. Same goes for characters from Africa/Asia who have lived in Westernized civilizations or come into contact with missionaries. There are always exceptions, however, and don't forget the atheists/agnostics. Also, how devout is your character? If they're involved in crime, how do they justify this with regards to their faith?
Sexual Orientation: Is your character straight? Gay? Bisexual? Maybe just very, very confused?
Back in the 1920s, sexuality wasn't really viewed the same way we view it today, along a homosexual/heterosexual axis. Instead of homosexual behaviour, it was effeminacy that was really looked down upon among men. As a result, there was no stigma among men among being attracted to effeminate homosexuals (colloquially referred to as "fairies"), as long as you yourself were perfectly masculine. There were far more young men than women in many cities due to the influx of young immigrant labourers, so substituting fairies for women around the lower class seemed a natural option.
Many men who realized they were gay during this period didn't want to come out for fear that it would necessarily make them a "fairy," as that was the only homosexual identity of which most were aware, stereotyped as lisping, wearing rouge, tweezing one's eyebrows, and generally displaying effeminate characteristics. While most of society was oblivious of homosexuality in day-to-day life, there were events such as drag balls which drew thousands of attendees and garnered front-page press coverage (although technically transvestitism was illegal in daily life). All in all, while there was strong bias against effeminacy in men, homosexuality was more of a curiosity than anything.
There wasn't really much of a lesbian culture at this point, as women were still fairly limited in terms of social freedoms.
Fears: Most people have them. This can be as intense as "losing a loved one" to something like "SPIDERS" for someone with arachnophobia. Feel free to make a character utterly fearless, but keep in mind that it does tend to correlate with recklessness.
Quirks/Habits: What does your character do all the time? What habits have they got, whether they be good or bad?
Likes: At least five likes here.
Dislikes: At least five dislikes here
Detailed Report: What is your character really like? What are their good traits and their bad traits? At least a paragraph here please.
Other: Is there anything else we should know about your character? Do they have an mental disorder, an addiction etc.
Additional Information:
Occupation: What is it your character does for a living? Are they a legitimate businessman, or not? How long have they held their job? Do they like it? Are they good at it?
Socioeconomic Status: High class, low class, middle class? Rich, poor, in between?
Education: What kind of education did your character have? Are they still at school if they’re young?
Weapon of Choice: Not everyone has one of these, especially if they are inclined towards pacifism. For some, it's as simple as their fists, or maybe a small knife. If your character is involved in crime, then they're more likely to carry some sort of gun. Please ensure the weapon existed in 1927 and was found in America.
Mode of Transport: Does your character have a car, if so what kind? Or maybe they have a boat, a truck or even a horse/horse and cart? Or would they rather take a cab or the train? Please ensure their car existed in 1927, was around in America, and is appropriate for your characters socioeconomic status. A migrant labourer won't be driving a Packard, but maybe a Model T Ford.
Special Skills: What is it that your character can do really well? It can be anything from playing an instrument to dressing themselves. Please do not go overboard here and make them the absolute best at everything they do because that, my friend, would make your character a Mary-Sue and earn you much sniggering and ridicule.
Languages Spoken: How many and what languages can your character speak? Is your character bilingual? Trilingual? Did they study another language or two in school? Just be sure they have a plausible way to have learned the language; for example, an American character from New York would have to have a darn good reason to be speaking fluent Welsh. And just because your character comes from a certain ethnic heritage doesn't mean they speak their ancestral language, particularly if their family has lived in America for a while; there's a good bet that a third-generation Irish character won't be speaking Gaelic. It's also possible that a character whose parents or grandparents occasionally speak a different language could be able to understand it somewhat, but never learned to speak it.
If your character speaks with an accent, say so here. You may choose to try and transcribe it, or you might not, but just be sure you know (at least vaguely) what an accent sounds like before you try and recreate it in print. For example, I chose not to try and write out Southern and Chinese accents for my characters, but I do write out a Cajun accent and a Maine accent, as well as a somewhat rougher manner of speech for less cultured characters, or those involved in crime. Just make sure that other RPers can mostly understand you, although their characters might not always understand yours (a situation which can be potentially quite humorous).
Known Accomplices:
Blood Relatives: List your characters relatives here.
Mother’s Name
Father’s Name
Siblings
Romantic Partner: Their name here, and if applicable, a link to their application.
Other: Friends? Gang associations? Anything else?
Pets: Name and description of your character’s pet here. This should be a solid paragraph, we want to know about the personality of your characters pet as it will likely feature in threads. Is it loyal to its owner? Does it have a particular favourite food? Is it affectionate or moody? Some people also like to include a picture of the pet here.
